Unclaimed Property May be the Ultimate in Unclaimed Funds

More and more people are learning a whole lot about unclaimed funds, hoping to perform a quick search on a website and find some money in their name somewhere. Most of these funds are sitting around in state treasuries and are available to you due to the fact that some government agency owes you a rebate. Other forms of unclaimed funds are from things like insurance rebates or policies that worked out in your favor. Nine times out of ten, you will be unaware that you're owed money, and these places do not seek you out to give it to you. It may seem odd for most people, but you have to be the one who initiates the search. Though out of all forms of unclaimed funds that may be available, unclaimed property might be the most lucrative.

It's one thing to find $200 bucks or so that's owed to you. It's a boon, to be sure. It can help you pay down a bill, buy some groceries, or perhaps help you buy some gifts for the holidays. It's an exciting thing, but it doesn't go very far. Though imagine that you spent a couple hundred dollars and received something worth tens of thousands of dollars. This is where unclaimed property can really change your life.

In a nutshell, unclaimed property is property that's been abandoned. This is mostly in the form of some abandoned house that the government seizes control of, but it can also be land that was abandoned, or even things like automobiles. After a certain amount of time of people not claiming this property, it will go up for auction. Missouri, for instance, is set to hold a very large unclaimed property auction, and some people will end up with property that's worth thousands, and they'll only spend hundreds on it.

A Real Chance to Profit

Unlike your typical unclaimed funds that you'll search for via a state treasury site, you won't be getting anything for free when you seek unclaimed property. You will have to invest a little bit of money here, or perhaps a lot, depending on how large the auction is. The good news here, however, is that these auctions aren't very well known at all. There aren't any television shows about them, like Storage Wars, and they don't really make the rounds on social media. These are quiet, little auctions that take place on a local level, as with counties and towns. These aren't advertised anywhere and thus you might get lucky and find a small one.

If you're interested in checking for these sorts of unclaimed property auctions, make sure you're searching your local area and around your state. You might be able to find auctions that are putting property up for sale, and you might only find a few dozen people there in attendance. Most of the people have their minds set on certain things, and so it's rare that they're going to bid up the prices. This means that you could realistically purchase a property for a few hundred dollars that you can resell for tens of thousands of dollars. Or you might decide to put some money into the property and actually make a home out of it. The point being that you should be able to find some of these property auctions where you can greatly benefit.

There is no guarantee here, however. Some news of these auctions might end up leaking, and you may find that businesses show up to purchase property so that they can flip it. This is why it's much better to focus on small towns and on rural areas. For instance, an auction in upstate New York is going to draw in a lot less people than an auction in New York City. This is going to give you a much better opportunity to purchase unclaimed property for pennies on the dollar, and this is how you can end up ultimately profiting.

Just keep in mind that these aren't auctions that are happening every single week. Some locations will only have one every few years, once enough property goes unclaimed to warrant an auction. In the meantime, while you wait for such an auction to pop up, you still may want to consider using a reputable website to see if you're owed any sort of money from any other source. You never know when you'll be able to find a few hundred dollars with your name on it.
