Ohio Residents: Check for Unclaimed Funds Before the State Website Goes Down

Many Ohioans have forgotten money waiting to be claimed—whether from old bank accounts, rent or utility deposits, uncashed checks, or insurance policies.

The Ohio Department of Commerce Division of Unclaimed Funds makes it easy to search for and claim these funds.

However, upcoming website maintenance could temporarily pause access, so now is the best time to check.

How to Find Out if You Have Unclaimed Money

The state’s unclaimed funds website allows anyone to search by name and see if they are owed money.

If a match is found, a claim form is generated, and supporting documents must be submitted by mail or online.

What Documents Are Needed?

To claim funds, you’ll need:

  • A clear copy of a photo ID
  • Proof of address, such as a driver’s license, tax return, mortgage deed, or bank statement
  • If claiming funds for a deceased family member, documentation from the Probate Court in the county where they lived is required

No Deadline to Claim, But Go Now!

There is no time limit to claim unclaimed funds—the state holds the money indefinitely.

However, with the website going down for maintenance in late February, now is the best time to check and start the process to avoid any delays.

To see if you have money waiting, visit Ohio’s Unclaimed Funds website before access is temporarily paused.
