How Unclaimed Property Works in Nebraska
When financial institutions, insurers, or businesses cannot locate the rightful owner of funds or property, they are legally required to send it to the state’s Unclaimed Property Program.
The Treasurer’s Office then safeguards those unclaimed assets until the owners or heirs come forward to claim them.
Between January 2024 and April 2025, Nebraska processed:
-
75,871 unclaimed property claims
-
30,450 approved payments
-
Over $30.2 million returned to residents
Amounts ranged widely, from just a few cents to nearly $2.5 million.
